On friday I woke up to find my google account had been disabled. No gmail, no adsense, adwords, webmaster tools, blog etc etc. No reason given.

I've filled out the forms, got an automated response which is totally irrelevant - ("If you have forgotten your password...") etc. Now I'm trapped in an email conversation with what seems to be an auto-responder which is just quoting stock emails at me with more irrelevant 'answers'.

Has anyone been through this? (Looks like a big yes http://search.twitter.com/search?q=google+account+disabled) Does anyone know the best way to get it resolved, or who to contact?

Google seems to have lots of things sorted out, but surely there is a better way of dealing with this sort of issue. I would happily pay for a premium google account to have some sort of support for this eventuality (Even though I'm paying them via adwords already).

Any help gratefully appreciated...

Nice article. But did it really need to be delivered to me via flash? :/

Maybe a youtube video of a camera panning over a printed out copy next? Or perhaps a Doom level file where the pages are texture mapped onto the walls.

You could always look for an abandoned website in a similar sector to yours, that has traffic. Then buy it. There's some great bargains to be had out there.

The best $500 I ever spent was on purchasing ircatwork.com which at the time had a default cgi::irc install on it. It did however have traffic - 100,000 visitors a month. I just emailed the owner, and managed to bag a bargain. Then just directed the traffic at Mibbit.com. Instant, cheap traffic looking for a good web based IRC client. I couldn't have asked for more.

A year on, and it now serves 1.5m visitors a month.

I think you're conveniently forgetting that most people choose a Mac so they have more time to create stuff, rather than messing with their computer.

Don't be so shy - you'll regret it later. Just do it.

Thanks all, it's been a fun time so far, lots and lots to do to take Mibbit mainstream, but it's really nice to know I don't have to shell out more money for bandwidth.

The bandwidth usage before I did work on optimization was around 3TB transfer a month, which can cost.

BTW Thanks everyone on HN, especially those who contributed to my first post about Mibbit. It was harsh, and afterwards I almost gave up on the idea, but sometimes you need that kick.

It's actually quite nice being a lone founder... nothing that makes you more determined to succeed than being the underdog.

The other interesting stat I forgot to mention, is that Mibbit has about 3-4 times as many users online as Meebo Rooms at any point. I'm quite pleased about that, lots of room for growth though.

This is sad news. Just when you thought flash was dead for all but video, it's now being used to show text.
