Hi Guys,

I have a working prototype for a device that addresses the needs of a large and neglected sector of the tech market (the blind) and am looking for a VC.

What are your suggestions for a startup with a finished product looking to go big? I'm looking for the industrial connections, product advice, etc. that only someone in the field would have. The current hype is all about (web) software, but I have a hardware product I'm looking to make something out of it.

From what I've been told, the terms of hardware VCs are much more favorable towards startup founders than in the software world because (esp. with a finished product) the result is tangible and the founder has done all the hard work and then some and it's basically a more sound investment, but I don't if that's actually true.

I'm looking for investments in order to pay for the legal costs (several patents on this product), the development of a polished version instead of something hacked together in a workshop, as well as marketing and business costs.

Any advice on this matter is most welcome.

Thanks!

No. There isn't. It's all someone's hard work and effort. Just because one belongs to google and one belongs to a fellow hacker doesn't make it OK to steal his work and get away with it.

Although no money was ever collected from those who have pre-ordered

Bullsh!t.

Just because they didn't collect the entire cost of the wakemate, they can't claim not to have collected money. Many here on HN and elsewhere (myself included) paid the down payment of 5 bucks to get on the waiting list. Of course I don't care about the 5 bucks, but for them to claim they didn't take any money.......

That would encourage them to try to generate spam comments in the slim hope that they'd get upvoted.... which would lead to a much worse spam situation.

For instance, they'd employ Markov Chains to re-hash comments in a post, or from older posts, or from the text of the article.

One thing I've learned: spammers don't give up. If you give them an easy way to submit that's even easier for you to clean up, that's better than starting an all-out war that'll just increase the spam content and make it more difficult to filter out.
