I am interested in analysing Japanese query data for a project. Search datasets are typically hard to come by, but there are a few American datasets (Excite, AlltheWeb, the notorious AOL search logs). Anyone know of a similar Japanese language dataset? Even a feed of recent queries -- something like http://www.searchhippo.com/queryview.php -- would be useful if it is updated frequently.
Thanks

I've been thinking about providing the opensource content-based image database at http://server.imgseek.net/ as a hosted service. This would allow image-related websites to provide visual query-by-example and query-by-sketch features with minimal setup effort. Can you see demand for it?

Are all the jQuery sites down?
They seem to be hosted in Media Temple. Funny that searching for mediatemple in Google presents you with an "Is Your Server Down?" ad right above it :) |

I wonder whether one can build a brainstorming search engine by simply returning other people's queries that are similar to your query.
Such queries might be ranked by hot, top, and new say. As an example, searching for "car" might return related queries "foldable car", "flying car", "shape-shifting car", etc. Clicking on "shape-shifting car" might return "shape-shifting boat", "shape-shifting building", "flying car", etc. Incidentally, others may have submitted more specific queries such as "foldable car" to see elaborations on this idea or related ideas. RSS feeds would be provided to track queries over time. |

Such headings can be used to provide more specific queries that the user can try (e.g., obama => obama presidency, obama political positions, etc.).
Google's related queries are insufficient: hillary clinton, obama muslim, obama biography, obama video, obama religion, michelle obama, barak obama, obama clinton |

I'm starting up a re-design (finally) of ShouldIGetTheBook(SIGTB), however, I lack any real artistic skills. I've been playing with a lot of the jQuery UI stuff lately and it seems pleasant looking and easy to hook in to. Anyone out there have any experience with it? How did it work for you? Does the end product look professional (not just some run of the mill theme)? Actually, any thoughts at all on using jQuery ThemeRoller to design your site would be great.
Thanks! |

Thanks for reading...
I have an Excel add-in that allows you to preform SQL select in Excel (www.querycell.com) It's been suggested to me that I should make a version specifically for people learning SQL. So lots of tutorials, maybe register a www.learnsql.com like domain and really push it as an educational tool. Question : Would you use a tool like this to teach SQL or recommend it to people learning SQL ? IMHO : Pros - Visual feedback (you can highlight/color rows that match your query) - Familiar comfortable environment for newbies - Possibly easier to set up in a night-classes or school environment than databses Cons - If someone is learning SQL they will eventually need to learn about a RDBMS so why not immediately - Excel has some stigma |
