I have used emacs many years ago, but I wonder if that is still the way to go? Are there IDEs that make sense?

If in the future there will be no more CDs or music albums, how will people listen to music? Will everything just be "random shuffle"? Will they select genres and shuffle through them? Will they create their own playlists by arduous work? Will playlists become valuable content?

I think Scheme doesn't have the all-powerful Macros, so would one be missing out on all the LISP goodness for choosing Scheme?

How usable are Macros, anyway? Does their use tend to produce readable code?

Obvious question derived from PG's "The Pooled-Risk Company Management Company" essay.

Since I frequently have to put up with undesirable technology choices in consulting gigs, I became interested in this question (Cobol as a representative for undesirable technologies).

In reaction to the "are you helping the world" thread, I really wonder what good could we do with hacker skills, on location? Like there are physicians who spend some months a year traveling poor countries and curing people.

Could we as programmers do something similar?

I am exhausted most of the time, because I never sleep well. Doctor diagnosed "restless legs syndrome" and wants to give me pills, but I wonder if there are any other things to try? Just interested in any stories of how people fixed their problems with bad sleep.

In software development, I have no problem to envision developing arbitrarily good applications, by building it one building block at a time. On the other hand, the last few days I have listened to extremely good music and I don't see how to ever arrive at that level. Is there a point when one has learned enough basics of music production to be able to produce arbitrarily good music?

Is it possible to submit several ideas to YC? Would it be contraproductive (not focussed enough)? Or would it be better to just mention the other ideas in the respective form field?

Has anybody ever been accepted for a secondary idea they mentioned on the form field, rather than the main idea?
